After you have successfully unlocked Mac OS X Operating System. Your VMware Workstation will now recognize Mac as a new OS. Start VMware Workstation, I’m using the newly released Workstation 9 here as an example. Go to File Open. Navigate to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. You should be able to see OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.vmx. Virtualization Mac Mac OS X Os X Windows VirtualBox Hackintosh Dual Boot mountain lion Feature Top clips Lifehacker Video. And set the operating system to “Mac OS X Server (64-bit)“. Download the Mountain Lion Installer. On OS X 10.9, you’ll get a warning that you can’t downgrade, which is fine. Install VirtualBox 4.3.12, or whatever the latest version is. Make a new VM image. You can use either ’Mac OS X (64 bit)’ or the 10.8-specific one - they both seem to work.
*Nov 07, 2019 Download Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 ISO and DMG Image. The Mac OS X Mountain DMG file can be downloaded from the below link. The Mac OS X Mountain Lion is considered to be a very stable operating system and won’t be much of a trouble to the users. Make sure that the minimum system requirements are met. The File size is around 4.2 GB.
*I’ve not tried the 10.9 setup yet, but I have successfully installed and run Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) in VirtualBox 4.3. I found I had to go searching for and download a copy of NullCPUPowerManagement.kext in order to get the installer to finish booting, but that was the only extra thing the script needed.
I am having a similar ’Failed to initialize COM’ problem on Mac OS X 10.7.5, VirtualBox 4.2.2. I have wasted over six hours alone trying to address the issue, and it’s still unresolved. My message:
’
Failed to initialize COM because the VirtualBox global configuration directory /Users/username/Library/VirtualBox is not accessible. Please check the permissions of this directory and of its parent directory.
The application will now terminate.
’
There is no such VirtualBox folder in my user Library folder. It is trying to locate a non-existent directory.
The closest workaround I could find that enabled VirtualBox to open was to create a brand new admin level user, log in to that user account, then install VirtualBox and run under that account. Works great, until I log out and try to run VirtualBox on my primary admin account, which results in the same ’failed to initialize COM’ error.
I have found no helpful advice geared towards Mac OS X users to troubleshoot or resolve this issue. You can try posting on Oracle’s VirtualBox forum. Good luck.
